Step back in time with Amber Inn Bar & Grill, the oldest tavern in Eau Claire, operating uninterrupted since 1881. Originally built by Walter Brewing Company for beer distribution, this historic spot maintained its tavern status through Prohibition and beyond, embodying resilience and community spirit. For nearly 150 years, we’ve been a hub for locals and visitors seeking hearty Wisconsin fare and friendly camaraderie.

Our family has owned and operated the tavern since 1981, preserving its legacy with a modern touch. The building itself tells stories of loggers, factory workers, and hearty community members. Inside, historic charm meets casual comfort—wood-paneled walls, vintage beer memorabilia, and a sense of belonging. We pride ourselves on using locally sourced ingredients, crafting each burger and plate with care.

Over the generations, our commitment has remained steadfast: serve excellent food, pour great beers, and foster a welcoming space where everyone feels at home.

Our dedication to tradition is matched by our community involvement. Known for top-notch burgers like the Hawaiian and jalapeño, plus German beers on tap, we celebrate Wisconsin’s brewing heritage. Our menu offers appetizers, sandwiches, wraps, and signature salads, ensuring every plate delights.

We’ve adapted to modern dining while holding onto our roots, maintaining a safe, accessible environment with wheelchair-friendly entrances and casual seating. Whether you're craving a beer after work, catching a game, or celebrating a family event, Amber Inn feels like your second home—a place where history and good cheer collide seamlessly.

Customer Reviews

A great place to get a 1/2 pound burger. One of the oldest bars in the area (late 1800s) this place also has great food. This used to be a regular tavern for loggers, and then manufacturers including the late Uniroyal factory. Locally sourced beef is used for their burgers. I had the peanut butter with bacon, and garlic cheese curds-both wonderful. Delicious. Also, some great German beer on tap you don’t see a lot or places. Highly recommend this classic tavern!

Must try for the burgers & the tap beers (good selection)! Had the Hawaiian & some portabella fries. Definitely a bit of a dive bar time capsule in there!

The OLDEST bar in the area delivers the BEST meal in the area. Kinda that simple. I am absolutely addicted, and cannot get enough... I recommend the jalapeño burger with potato wedges.

This neighborhood pub has been my go-to spot for 14 years, and is an excellent place to eat or unwind after a long day's work. It is the oldest pub in Eau Claire and a real treasure. The GOOD: - Homey, Wisconsiny atmosphere that stays the same - Good beer selection - Great food and friendly service - Best indoor ventilation of any EC restaurant or bar I've tested The Not-so-good: - Limited liquor selection constrains choice of mixed-drinks - They use Styrofoam to-go boxes - Closes too early 3 days a week - Chicken wings no longer available

As someone who doesn’t really give reviews, the Hawaiian burger deserves a review. Ordered pick up, smelled so good I had to take a bite before turning on my car. You remember the first time you got to drive? Me neither, but ya won’t forget how good this burger is when you try it.
